Novatio is a Cognia-accredited, private virtual school for students in grades 2 through 8. Students complete personalized academics with support from certified teachers each morning, then spend their afternoons in live clubs focused on practical skills, creativity, and real-world projects. For families in Glendale, Arizona's ESA program makes this possible without writing a tuition check.

What is the Arizona ESA and how does it work for Glendale families?

Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account program is available to every K-12 resident in the state. There is no income test and no disability requirement. The state deposits education funds into your child's ESA, and you manage those funds through a ClassWallet account. When you enroll in Novatio, tuition is transferred directly from your ClassWallet account to the school, so your family does not pay Novatio's $7,500 annual tuition out of pocket. Any ESA funds remaining after tuition may be used for other approved educational expenses such as tutoring, curriculum, or educational therapies.

Does Novatio accept students from Glendale without academic requirements?

All applicants to Novatio are accepted. The school does not screen students based on grades, test scores, current academic level, or prior school performance. A student who is ahead in math and behind in reading is as welcome as a student who is right on track across every subject. Admission to Novatio and approval for Arizona ESA funding are separate processes, so families apply to both and complete enrollment paperwork once the ESA award is in place.

How does Novatio personalize learning for each student?

Students follow a shared academic schedule, but the work within each subject is personalized to their current level. During the math block, for example, one student might be building multiplication fluency while another is working through pre-algebra. AI works behind the scenes to build each student's academic plan using real-time assessment data, identifying where they need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. A student in sixth grade may be placed at an eighth-grade level in math while receiving targeted support in reading, without either subject holding the other back. You can learn more about how this works on the curriculum page.

What do certified teachers actually do at Novatio?

Technology personalizes the learning plan, but certified teachers provide the direct guidance, intervention, and human support students need throughout the school day. When a student becomes stuck, a teacher steps in with additional explanation and one-on-one support rather than leaving the student to work through an online program alone. Teachers also monitor progress, provide accountability, and build the kind of ongoing relationship that helps students stay motivated. One parent described the experience this way: the teachers and administration feel like part of our extended family, and the friendships made at school are organic and natural.

What happens in the afternoon at Novatio?

After approximately two focused hours of core academics in the morning, students join live afternoon clubs built around a real challenge. Past clubs have included Game On, where students learn coding and build a Scratch game for a real online audience; Wealth Builders, where students work through a 20-year life simulation and prepare for the National Financial Capability Test; and The Summit, a debate-style club inspired by Model UN where students research global issues and defend positions with evidence. Club sessions generally rotate every nine to eleven weeks, and not every club is offered every session. The goal in every club is a concrete outcome, whether that is a published project, a mastery score, or a personal system students can put into practice.

What results have Novatio students seen?

NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. That figure comes from measured growth data, not a marketing goal. As one specific example, one Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over one year based on NWEA MAP scores. Individual results vary, and no outcome is guaranteed, but the model is designed around mastery-based progression so students move forward after demonstrating readiness rather than waiting for a class to catch up. If your child has an IEP, a 504, or a diagnosis like dyslexia or ADHD, additional support services are available. You can read about those options on the special education support page.

How does a Glendale family get started with Novatio?

The first step is applying for Arizona ESA through the state if you haven't already, since every Arizona K-12 resident qualifies and there is no income or disability threshold to meet. Once you have a TEFA award, the next step is completing Novatio's application, which takes under two minutes, has no application fee, and involves no academic screening. If you have questions about whether Novatio is the right fit for your child's situation, you can book a 1:1 admissions call with Karissa before you apply. Families with learning differences, funding questions, or midyear timing concerns often find that call the most useful first step.
