If you're searching for an online school in Dallas that combines real teacher support with personalized academics, Novatio is a Cognia-accredited virtual private school serving Texas families in grades 2 through 8, and Texas Education Freedom Account funding can cover the full $8,500 tuition for families who receive an award.
Novatio is a Cognia-accredited private virtual school for students in grades 2 through 8. Dallas families can enroll without meeting any academic entry requirements — Novatio accepts all applicants regardless of current grades, test scores or academic level. Students follow a structured school day built around approximately two hours of focused, personalized core academics each morning, then spend their afternoons in live clubs focused on practical skills, creativity and real-world challenges. The school operates on Central Time, so the schedule fits naturally into a Dallas family's day. The 2025–2026 school year begins August 3, 2026.
Every student works on the same subject during the relevant academic block, but the work inside that block is personalized to where your child actually is. During the math block, one student might be strengthening multiplication while another is working on pre-algebra — both are in math, neither is waiting for the other. AI works behind the scenes to assess each student's skills and build a learning plan that places them at the right level. Certified teachers then provide direct guidance, step in when a student gets stuck and monitor progress throughout the day. Your child is never left alone with a program to figure things out independently. Learn more about how this works on the curriculum page.
NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. Individual results vary, and no outcome is guaranteed, but that figure reflects real assessment data from real students. One Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over a single year, based on NWEA MAP scores. That is one family's experience, not a promise about every student, but it illustrates what the model can produce when a student who has been working below level gets accurate placement and consistent support. Progress is measured at the subject level, so a student who needs reading support gets it without being held back in math or science.
Texas families who receive a Texas Education Freedom Account award can use it to cover Novatio's $8,500 annual tuition in full, making the cost $0 out of pocket for those families. Novatio acceptance and TEFA approval are separate processes — Novatio accepts students without academic screening, but Texas families must separately qualify for and receive a TEFA award through the state. After receiving a TEFA award, families select Novatio through the TEFA portal and complete Novatio's enrollment requirements. Families with an IEP may have access to additional funding; for specifics about documentation and funding levels, contact Novatio's admissions team directly. Application dates and portal instructions are time-sensitive, so it's worth confirming current details before you begin.
Novatio's daily model includes built-in supports that benefit many students with learning differences: individual pacing by subject, frequent breaks, short focused session blocks, teacher monitoring and personalized intervention. For students who need more, Novatio offers an additional Special Education Support Program that may include case management, executive-function coaching, targeted reading support and review of an existing IEP or 504 plan. One-on-one specialist-led dyslexia intervention is also available. Additional support services carry an added cost, and for students with an IEP or 504, those additional costs are covered by the state. For a full picture of what your child's support plan might look like, the best step is a direct conversation with the admissions team. You can explore options further on the special education support page.
Once core academics are done — designed to be finished by lunch — students join two live afternoon clubs each session. Club sessions rotate roughly every nine to eleven weeks. Past clubs have included Game On, where students build and publish a Scratch game; Wealth Builders, where students work through a 20-year life simulation and prepare for the National Financial Capability Test; The Summit, inspired by Model UN, where students research global issues and defend a position with evidence; and Level Up, which uses curriculum adapted from Yale's Science of Well-Being to help students build a 30-day personal habits system. Not every club runs every session, and past clubs are examples of the kinds of experiences Novatio offers rather than a promise of current availability. The goal is for every club to have a real challenge, a measurable outcome and a teacher at the center coaching students through it.
The application takes under two minutes, has no fee and requires no commitment. If you have questions about whether Novatio fits your child's situation — including learning differences, current academic level, or how TEFA funding works for your family — the best first step is a 1:1 conversation with the admissions team. Book a call with Karissa to talk through your child's needs and get clear answers before you apply. There's no pressure and no hard sell, just a straightforward conversation about whether this is the right fit.
