What is Novatio School and who is it for?

Novatio School is a Cognia-accredited virtual private school serving students in grades 2 through 8. It is built on a mastery-based model where students complete approximately two hours of focused, personalized core academics each morning, then spend their afternoons in live clubs focused on practical skills, creativity, and real-world challenges. Every applicant is accepted regardless of grades, test scores, or current academic level, so El Paso families do not need to worry about whether their child will qualify academically. Novatio accepts students without academic entry requirements, though Texas families must separately qualify for and receive TEFA funding.

How does the academic model actually work for my child?

Students follow a shared subject schedule, but the work within each subject is personalized to their current level. During the math block, for example, one student might be building multiplication fluency while another works through algebra, all at the same time. AI works behind the scenes to build each student's academic plan using real-time assessment data, placing students at the level they are ready for and adjusting the plan as they progress. Certified teachers provide direct guidance, intervention, and support throughout the school day so your child is never left alone to figure out an online program when they get stuck. You can learn more about the full curriculum at the Novatio curriculum page.

What does the research say about how much students learn?

NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. Individual results vary, and Novatio does not guarantee that every student will reach that rate, but the data comes from real students assessed with a nationally recognized standardized tool. One Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over a single year, based on NWEA MAP scores. That is one family's experience, not a promised outcome, but it illustrates what mastery-based, personalized learning can make possible when a student is placed accurately and supported consistently.

Can TEFA cover the cost of Novatio for my El Paso family?

Novatio's Texas tuition is $8,500 per school year. For students who receive a TEFA award, TEFA can cover that tuition in full, meaning your family would not pay Novatio tuition out of pocket. TEFA funding is not universally awarded, and Novatio does not control TEFA approval. Novatio accepts students without academic entry requirements, but approval for state funding is a separate process administered through the Texas Education Agency. After receiving a TEFA award, families select Novatio through the TEFA portal and complete Novatio's enrollment requirements. Application dates and portal instructions change, so checking the TEA website for current information is the most reliable step.

What do afternoons look like, and will my child actually connect with others?

Afternoons at Novatio are built around live clubs that rotate roughly every nine to eleven weeks. Clubs are designed around a real challenge, not just a topic. Past examples include The Summit, where students research a global issue and defend the side they personally disagree with, and Wealth Builders, where students work through a 20-year life simulation and build financial literacy skills covering budgeting, saving, investing, and debt. Students participate in two clubs per session. Not every club runs every session, and past clubs are used here as examples of the kinds of experiences Novatio offers. One Novatio parent described the teachers as genuinely engaging, noting they facilitate a great environment for learning and provide excellent oversight with student accountability. The friendships students build through clubs are a consistent part of what families describe when they talk about their experience at Novatio.

What if my child has a learning difference or needs extra support?

Many supports are built into Novatio's daily learning model rather than added only after a student begins to struggle. Individual pacing by subject, frequent breaks, short focused session blocks, and regular teacher check-ins are part of how the school runs for every student. For students who need more, Novatio offers a Special Education Support Program that may include case management, executive-function coaching, targeted reading support, and review of an existing IEP or 504 plan. Additional support services carry an additional cost, and for students with an IEP or 504, those additional costs are covered by the state. Visit the special education support page to understand what may be available for your child.

How do I get started from El Paso?

Starting your application takes under two minutes, there is no application fee, and there is no commitment required to apply. Because TEFA is a separate process from Novatio's admissions, many El Paso families find it helpful to talk through the timeline and funding steps before applying. If you have questions about whether Novatio is the right fit, how TEFA works alongside enrollment, or what support your child might need, book a 1:1 call with Karissa. She can walk you through what the process looks like for your family and answer questions specific to your child's situation. Individual results vary, and Novatio is not the right choice for every family, but if the model sounds like a fit, the next step is straightforward.
