Fort Worth families looking for an online school in grades 2 through 8 can enroll at Novatio, a Cognia-accredited private virtual school where certified teachers guide personalized academics each morning, TEFA can cover the full $8,500 tuition, and students are done with schoolwork by lunch. Novatio accepts all applicants without academic entry requirements, so the only qualification your family needs to sort out is the Texas Education Freedom Account funding itself.
Students complete approximately two hours of focused, personalized core academics each morning in five subjects: Language, Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. All students follow the same subject schedule, meaning everyone works on math during the math block, but each student works at their own level within that subject. One student might be strengthening multiplication while another is working through algebra, and neither is slowed down or rushed to match the other. Academics are designed to be done by lunch, with no homework carried into the evening. Afternoons are spent in live clubs focused on practical skills, creativity, and real projects with teacher coaching.
AI works behind the scenes to build each student's academic plan using real-time assessment data. It places students at the level where they are ready to learn, identifies skills they have already mastered, and flags areas where more practice is needed. A student can be working at an advanced level in math and a different level in reading at the same time, because each subject is assessed and placed separately. Certified teachers then use that information to provide direct guidance, explain concepts when a student gets stuck, and monitor progress throughout the school day. Your child is never left alone to work through an online program without support.
NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. To give that number a concrete shape: one Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over one year, based on NWEA MAP scores. These are real outcomes from real students, not projections. Individual results vary, and Novatio does not guarantee that every student will achieve the same growth. What the data does suggest is that the combination of personalized placement, mastery-based progression, and direct teacher support can produce meaningful academic momentum for students who have not been well-served by a one-size-fits-all classroom. You can read more about the academic model on the curriculum page.
Texas Education Freedom Accounts are funded by the state of Texas. For families who receive a TEFA award, the account can cover Novatio's $8,500 tuition in full, which means your family does not write Novatio a tuition check. Novatio accepts students without academic entry requirements, but TEFA funding is not automatically awarded to every family. You apply for a TEFA award separately through the state process, and Novatio's acceptance of your child does not guarantee that funding approval. Families who have a student with an IEP or 504 plan should ask during the admissions call about documentation requirements and available support services, since students with documented learning needs may qualify for additional resources. The 2025–2026 school year begins August 3, 2026 on Central Time.
Novatio is not a self-directed online program. Certified teachers provide direct guidance, academic intervention, and accountability throughout the school day. When a student becomes stuck on a concept, a teacher is available to explain it, work through it with them, and follow up on progress. One Novatio parent described the experience this way:
"This is NOT an AI school, this is a school that applies features of AI to customized learning for each child. The teachers and administration feel like part of our extended family, and best of all, the friendships made at school are organic and natural."
AI personalizes the learning plan and monitors progress data. Teachers provide the human support, mentorship, and intervention that a student actually needs to move forward. Those are two different jobs, and Novatio keeps both in place. If you want to understand how teacher support is structured for students with learning differences, the special education support page has more detail.
After morning academics, students participate in two live clubs per session. Club sessions rotate roughly every nine to eleven weeks. Past clubs have included Game On, where students build and publish a Scratch game for a real online audience; Wealth Builders, where students work through a 20-year life simulation and study budgeting, saving, investing, and debt; and The Summit, a Model UN-style club where students research global issues and defend a position with evidence. Not every club runs every session, but each one is built around a real challenge, a project or measurable outcome, and teacher coaching throughout. Clubs are not optional enrichment added on top of academics. They are a core part of how Novatio builds practical skills alongside academic ones.
The application takes under two minutes, has no commitment, and costs nothing to submit. Novatio accepts all applicants without academic entry requirements, so submitting an application is simply the first step in the process. After that, you'll complete an admissions call to confirm fit, finish enrollment paperwork, and work through the TEFA application if you haven't started it yet. If your child has a learning difference, an IEP, or a 504 plan, or if you're not sure whether Novatio is the right fit for your family's situation, the best first step is a 1:1 conversation. Book a call with Karissa to get your questions answered before you commit to anything.
