If your child knows the material but consistently struggles to start, stay on task, or follow through, the problem may not be effort. Novatio is a Cognia-accredited virtual private school for grades 2–8 that builds executive function support into the daily learning model rather than treating it as an add-on.
Executive function support at Novatio is woven into the structure of how each school day works, not reserved for students who are already struggling visibly. The school day is divided into predictable blocks: focused core academics in the morning and live clubs in the afternoon. That consistent, repeatable rhythm reduces the cognitive load of figuring out what comes next. Students work on one subject at a time during shared subject blocks, which limits the kind of task-switching that often derails a student who has difficulty with attention and organization. Teachers monitor progress throughout the day and can step in before a small difficulty becomes a larger one.
Students complete approximately two hours of focused, personalized academics each morning, and academics are designed to be done by lunch. That shorter, structured window matters for students with executive function challenges because it keeps the required attention span realistic. There is no homework, ever, so the academic day ends when the school day ends. Novatio is designed so students complete their assigned work during the school day rather than carrying a second round of demands into the evening, which is often where families experience the most conflict and exhaustion around school.
Every student follows a shared subject schedule, meaning everyone works on math during the math block, for example, but the work within each subject is personalized to the student's current level. AI works behind the scenes to build each student's academic plan using real-time assessment data. It helps place students at the appropriate level, identifies skills they are ready to learn, and adjusts their learning pathway as they progress. A student who is strong in math but working to build reading skills receives work calibrated to each subject separately. You can read more about how this works on the curriculum page.
Technology personalizes the learning plan, but certified teachers provide the direct guidance, intervention, and human support students need throughout the school day. Teachers monitor progress, identify when a student has become stuck, and step in with additional explanation, accountability, or encouragement. For students whose executive function challenges affect organization or task initiation, having a teacher who can notice the pattern and respond the same day is meaningfully different from waiting for a quarterly progress report. Students are not left alone to work through an online program and hope for the best.
Yes. Through Novatio's Special Education Support Program, students with an IEP or 504 plan can access services including case management, parent meetings, executive function coaching, organizational support, and regular progress check-ins. For students with a qualifying IEP or 504, the additional cost of these services is covered by the state. Many of the supports built into Novatio's daily model, including individual pacing by subject, short focused session blocks, frequent breaks, and teacher monitoring, are already in place for every student. They do not have to be requested as an exception after a student begins to fall behind.
NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. Individual results vary, and this result reflects the first cohort rather than a guarantee for every student. As a single example of what progress can look like, one Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over one year, based on NWEA MAP scores. That is one family's experience, not a typical result, but it reflects what becomes possible when a student receives work at the right level with consistent teacher support. Novatio is Cognia-accredited, which means its academic program meets an independent standard for school quality.
Novatio tends to fit families where a student's executive function challenges are made harder by a noisy classroom environment, inconsistent feedback, or a pace that does not match how the student learns. The virtual setting, predictable schedule, and teacher involvement address many of those friction points directly. Novatio does not provide clinical or therapeutic services, including occupational therapy or counseling, and it is not a treatment program for ADHD or any other condition. Families who need those clinical services alongside school should plan for them separately. If you want to talk through whether Novatio is a realistic fit for your child's specific situation, the right next step is to book a 1:1 call with Karissa, where you can ask about your child's learning profile, documentation, and what enrollment involves. The application takes under two minutes, has no fee, and requires no commitment.
