If your child has ADHD, the problem usually isn't their ability — it's a school model that was never designed for the way their brain works. Novatio is a virtual school for ADHD in grades 2–8 that builds accommodations into every single school day, not just on paper.
Traditional classrooms ask every student to sit still, stay on pace with the group, and absorb information the same way at the same time. For a student with ADHD, that setup creates a daily obstacle course before the academic content even begins. The homework that follows a full day of that kind of effort is often the breaking point. Novatio was built around a completely different premise: academics are done by lunch, there is no homework ever, and every student works at their own level in every subject from the first day.
The school day runs 8 AM to 2 PM. The first two hours are personalized, AI-driven academics where your child moves at their own pace in each subject — faster where they're strong, slower where they need more time. A live teacher is present as a guide and mentor, not lecturing to a group of thirty. The afternoons shift to clubs and real-world skills, which rotate every six to eight weeks and have included things like robotics, money, and debate. That structure — focused work, then hands-on application — tends to match how students with ADHD actually sustain attention and motivation across a day.
Because the whole model is individualized, accommodations aren't a special exception — they're just how school works here. Every student gets an individual pace per subject, so there's no pressure to keep up with a class that has moved on. Frequent breaks are built in rather than negotiated. Extended time is the default, not a note in a file. Text-to-speech and voice-to-text tools are available for any student who needs them. For students with an IEP or 504, Novatio also offers a Special Education Support Program that includes small-group executive-function coaching, case management, parent meetings, and targeted academic help. You can learn more at novatio's special education support page. The cost of those additional services is separate, but for students whose IEP or 504 qualifies them, state funding through the Arizona ESA or Texas TEFA typically covers it — your conversation with the Head of School will sort out the specifics for your family.
Both, and the data backs it up. Based on NWEA MAP scores from Novatio's first cohort, students learn 4.5 times faster than traditional-school peers. One student entered reading at the 8th percentile and finished the year at the 80th. That is not a small gain, and it happened in a school where the student wasn't spending evenings on homework or starting every morning already behind. Novatio is Cognia accredited and holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating from more than 120 families. All applicants are accepted, so a diagnosis or learning history doesn't close the door. You can explore the curriculum to see how mastery-based progression works in practice.
There's no single ADHD profile, and Novatio doesn't treat it like there is. Some students with ADHD need the pace slowed in one subject and accelerated in another. Some need executive-function support to break tasks into manageable pieces. Some just need the sensory and social overload of a traditional building removed so they can actually think. The AI-driven academic model adjusts in real time to where your child is, and the teachers who guide the small classes know each student personally. Many families find that removing the homework battle alone changes the tone of their entire household.
For Arizona families, Novatio costs $0 out of pocket. Tuition is $7,500 per year and is paid directly through the Arizona ESA via ClassWallet — the state deposits funds into your account and ClassWallet pays Novatio. You never write a check. Every Arizona K–12 student qualifies for the ESA regardless of income or disability status. If there are funds left in your account after tuition, you can use them for other approved expenses like tutoring or therapies. For Texas families, tuition is $8,500 per year and is covered in full by TEFA. Students with an IEP or 504 receive a higher TEFA award, which can also help cover the cost of additional support services. Novatio walks every family through the application process, and the admissions page is the right place to start.
The application takes under two minutes and carries no commitment. After you apply, you'll have a required one-on-one call with Novatio's admissions team to talk through your child's needs, the support options available, and what enrollment looks like for your state. The 2026–2027 school year starts August 3, 2026. If your child has ADHD and has been grinding through a system that wasn't built for them, this is a straightforward next step worth taking.
