Novatio is a Cognia-accredited private virtual school for grades 2 through 8 that places students at their actual level in every subject and pairs that with certified teachers who are present all day.
Novatio is a private, fully virtual school accredited by Cognia, the same accrediting body that reviews traditional public and private schools. It serves students in grades 2 through 8 across Texas, including Katy and the wider Houston area. Students spend roughly two focused hours each morning on personalized core academics, then spend afternoons in live teacher-led clubs built around real projects and practical skills. There are no academic entry requirements, so grades and test scores do not decide whether a student can enroll.
The school day runs from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Central time, so Katy students keep the same rhythm as their neighbors. Mornings are for academics: about two hours of personalized work in reading, writing, math, science and social studies, with certified teachers available throughout for direct instruction and one-on-one help. Afternoons move to live clubs where students work toward a real project or a measurable goal with a teacher as coach. There is no homework, so evenings belong to your family.
Placement happens subject by subject. A student might work at a fifth grade level in reading and a seventh grade level in math, and the platform adjusts as they demonstrate mastery rather than moving the whole class along on a fixed calendar. AI handles the placement and pacing behind the scenes, while certified teachers deliver instruction, track progress and step in when a student stalls. Students still see the same classmates every day in live sessions and clubs, so the personalization happens inside a real group, not in isolation. NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. That figure comes from a standardized assessment used widely across traditional schools, not from an internal rubric, and it reflects cohort-level growth rather than a guarantee for any individual student. As one specific example from that group, one Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over one year. Individual results vary, and a student's starting point, subjects and time enrolled all affect what growth looks like.
Novatio's Texas tuition is $8,500 per school year. Texas families can apply to the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program through the Texas Education Agency, and for students who receive a TEFA award, that funding can cover the full tuition amount. TEFA is not automatically awarded to every Texas family and Novatio does not control approval, so acceptance at Novatio does not guarantee a TEFA award. Once a family has an award, they select Novatio in the TEFA portal and the state pays the school directly, with no reimbursement paperwork. Students with an IEP or 504 plan often qualify for a higher award.
Supports like individual pacing by subject, extended time and frequent breaks are part of how the standard school day already runs, so a student does not have to qualify for anything to get them. For students who need more, Novatio's Special Education Support Program can add 1:1 specialist-led reading intervention, executive-function coaching and case management.
