Families in The Woodlands looking for an online school that combines certified teachers, personalized academics, and afternoon clubs can apply to Novatio, a Cognia-accredited virtual private school serving grades 2 through 8 across Texas, with tuition that TEFA can cover in full for students who receive an award.
Novatio is a Cognia-accredited virtual private school for students in grades 2 through 8. The Woodlands families who are searching for an online school in The Woodlands will find a program built around personalized academics in the morning and live, teacher-coached clubs in the afternoon, with certified teachers providing direct support throughout the school day.
Most online schools ask students to move through the same material at the same pace. Novatio works differently. All students follow a shared subject schedule, but the work within each subject is personalized to where each student actually is right now. During the math block, one student might be strengthening multiplication while another is working through algebra. AI works behind the scenes to place each student at the right level and adjust the learning plan as they progress. Certified teachers then provide guidance, intervention, and accountability throughout the day, so your child is never left alone to figure out a platform when they get stuck. You can learn more about how this works on the curriculum page.
Students complete approximately two hours of focused, personalized academics each morning across five core subjects: Language, Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Academics are designed to be done by lunch. In the afternoon, students participate in two live clubs each session, which rotate roughly every nine to eleven weeks. Clubs are built around a real challenge and a measurable outcome, whether that's publishing a Scratch game, mastering a financial literacy test, or defending a global issue with evidence. The schedule gives families in The Woodlands a predictable structure without a second school day stretching into the evening. There is no homework, ever.
NWEA MAP data from Novatio's first cohort showed that students learned 4.6 times faster than expected during the measured period. That figure comes from real assessment data, not a projected goal. As one concrete example, one Novatio student moved from the 8th to the 80th percentile in reading over the course of a single year, based on NWEA MAP scores. Individual results vary, and no outcome is guaranteed, but the data reflects what the model is built to do: place students where they are, give them the support they need, and let them move forward when they're ready rather than when the class is ready.
Novatio's Texas tuition is $8,500 per school year. For students who receive a TEFA award, TEFA can cover that tuition in full. Novatio accepts students without academic entry requirements, but Texas families must separately qualify for and receive TEFA funding through the state. Novatio's acceptance does not guarantee a TEFA award, and Novatio does not control TEFA approval. After receiving a TEFA award, families select Novatio through the TEFA portal and complete Novatio's enrollment requirements. Application dates and portal instructions are time-sensitive, so families should confirm current deadlines directly with the state.
Many supports are built into the daily model rather than added only after a student begins to struggle. Students work at their own level within each subject, so a student who needs more time in reading can still move ahead in math. The school also offers a Special Education Support Program that may include case management, executive-function coaching, targeted reading support, and review of an existing IEP or 504 plan. One-on-one specialist-led dyslexia intervention is also available. Additional support services carry an additional cost, and for students with an IEP or 504, those additional costs are covered by the state. You can find more detail on the special education support page.
Novatio tends to work well for students who feel out of place in a traditional setting, whether that's because they're ahead in some subjects and behind in others, because the pace of a conventional classroom leaves them disengaged, or because the social and sensory environment of a physical school has become a daily obstacle. The model removes many of the friction points that make traditional school hard for some students, including fixed pacing, limited teacher attention, and the pressure of being publicly behind. That said, Novatio is not the right fit for every family. Students who need in-person therapeutic services, extensive hands-on lab work, or a large peer social environment may need a different option.
If you're ready to apply, the application takes under two minutes, has no commitment, and carries no application fee. If you'd prefer to talk through whether Novatio is the right fit first, including questions about TEFA funding, your child's specific learning needs, or how the daily schedule works, you can book a one-on-one call with Karissa to get straightforward answers before you decide anything.
